You get told that there are multiple uses of sweat other than for the manufacture of Mind Essence. Sweat is required in the manufacture of some items, some of which would require 100k of sweat per click or attempt. So, the only reason that sweat is as low as it is is due to the ignorance of folks like you, who crashes the market by selling sweat at such an ungodly price.
But it is not that you haven't tried. You have been trying to sell at the recommended 2 PED/k over the global trade channels for days without even a nibble. You tried cooling your heels at Twin Peaks for hours but the local trade chat there is just as dead to your asking price of 2 PED/k.
So, can you really sell your sweat at 2 PED/k?
Yes, you can but you have got to remember a few things. The current price of sweat is lower than 2 PED/k. I don't know what the current price is but for the purposes of this post, let's assume that it is 1.4 PED/k. So, the bulk of sweat will change hands at about 1.4 PED/k. While you might be able to sell sweat at 2 PED/k, you are probably not going to be able to sell all your sweat at this price.
One thing that I have seen players do is to advertise their price of 2 PED/k over the local and global trade channels, which I feel is very ineffective. Think about it. The trade channels are full of people selling at 1.3 PED/k and 1.4 PED/k and buyers who are looking for the best deal. Do you think that your 2 PED/k would result in a sale?
Selling your sweat at 2 PED/k would require a little more finesse than just advertising your price over the relevant channels. The following are a few suggestions that could work:
- If you find a player telling you that sweat can be easily sold at 2 PED/k, that player may have an inside line to a player or players who buy sweat at this price. You could try sending a private message to that player offering a quick profit. Tell him that you will sell him your sweat at 1.8 PED/k and he can make a quick profit of 0.2 PED for each k that you sell him.
It would be better not to make such a proposal over public chat since that player may have made a big deal about never selling sweat below 2 PED/k and he would be violating his own principles by buying sweat from you at a lower price. - Always have a few k of sweat with you when you are sweating. Keep your eyes peeled on the local trade chat for bids of 2 PED/k or above. Once you see the price that you want, right-click on the avatar or the avatar's name in chat, and select “Avatar – Private Trade”. The idea is to be the first to trade the avatar – you can ask how much sweat the avatar wants to buy after the trade request is accepted.
Even if an avatar announces the intention to buy sweat without stating the price, you could take the chance and trade him quickly. If the price is not what you wanted, you can always decline the trade. And anyway, after a while, you will know which avatar buys low and which ones buy high. - If you know a player is buying sweat at 2 PED/k, and even if you did not manage the sale, you can send a message and ask if you can be his regular supplier.
I would be careful with this approach as different people would react differently. Keep in mind that that avatar probably knows that 2 PED/k is higher than the current sweat price and tailor your approach so as not to appear to be taking advantage of the situation. And, above all, if the answer is no, keep a record of the avatar's name and never ask again. - Big Industries have a Sweating Support Initiative (SSI) that buys 1k of sweat from 10 avatars every day. Every Monday through Friday at 21:00 and 15:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, a BIG representative will purchase sweat at 2.5 PED/k at the OLA42 teleport (290,587). However, your agility do have to be 40 or below.
